The Payne Whitney Gymnasium’s Comprehensive Study was completed in early 2007. Through non-destructive testing programs, visual assessments and review of archival information, a series of six phases were recommended to address the exterior envelope conditions identified in the report. In June 2007, Phase I: Tower Maintenance and Repairs project commenced. The scope of the project included exterior restoration and limited interior improvements. The first step of the project was the documentation of the masonry wall, roofs and drainage systems. Following documentation the team proceeded to schematic design, and subsequently construction documents for the masonry repairs and roof replacement.
